Getting Started: First (and Free) Steps for New Authors

shutterstock_142613179What should you do once you hit publish on your NOOK Press projects? Get a quick start to marketing your book with these three simple–and free–steps:

1. Join us on Facebook
Become active on our Facebook page to make connections and learn how other authors are promoting their work, plus get NOOK Press updates. Watch our author how to videos, read bestseller’s answers to fellow new authors’ questions, find links to self-publishing articles and more. This is an easy first step to learning about self-publishing and uses a social network you likely check on a daily basis.

2. Craft your online presence
Decide whether you want to keep your personal life and author life separate, then get the word out about your writing by utilizing free and effective social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter. Using a pen name? Be sure that it drives your social network naming conventions. Using your title can limit you later on as you publish more books.

3. Ask your fans to spread the word about your NOOK Book
Even as a  new author you already have fans: provide friends, family, fellow writers and beta readers with your cover and a short 1 – 2 sentence book description and a link to your product page that they can pass along to their circle of friends and readers.  They’ve heard you talk about your writing process, now they’ll be excited to help you spread the word as your very own “street team.”
