Diane Capri is back in action with her latest action-packed adventure, Jack on a Wire based in Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher” universe! And what better way to celebrate than sharing some personal anecdotes in our “20 Questions.” (Ok we can probably think of a few better ways to celebrate lol).
But we couldn’t be more thrilled for Diane to share some of her own insights, inspirations, and musings. So, as the woman herself likes to say, “Caffeinate and carry on!”

1. Your best virtue as an author.
Reliability. It’s important that readers can get the books they want when and where they want them.
2. Your most quirky author habit.
After years of dressing up for court every day as a lawyer, I love working in my pajamas.
3. Your favorite quality in a protagonist.
Tenacity. The protagonist in my “Hunt for Jack Reacher Series” is a good example. FBI Special Agent Kim Otto gets knocked down, but against all odds, she gets up again and again until she discovers a clever way to prevail. Read my new release, Jack on a Wire, and you’ll see what I mean.
4. Your favorite quality in an antagonist.
The antagonist must be a worthy adversary. Every villain is the hero of his own story with just as much, or more, at stake than the protagonist. The more worthy the villain is, the harder it is for the protagonist to prevail and the sweeter the victory when she does.
5. If you could ask any other author, past or present, a question who would it be and what would you ask?
Agatha Christie. I’d love to ask her what really happened during those two weeks in December 1926 when she disappeared. It’s about time she told us, don’t you think?
6. When you aren’t writing, you are:
Pretty lazy, actually.
7. Your easiest book to write.
Honestly, writing doesn’t come easily to me. I wish it did. Every book is a challenge. I’m always thrilled when everything comes together for a satisfying ending.
8. Your hardest book to write.
It’s always the one I’m currently working on.
9. Your ideal writing place.
I love writing outside on a warm day in a peaceful setting with a lovely water view.
10. Your favorite childhood book.
Mystery/Thriller/Suspense are my favorite genres. As a child, my nose was glued to the page for anything involving Nancy Drew. (And later, Travis McGee, Nero Wolfe, Kinsey Milhone, and more mystery/thriller/suspense stories than I can possibly remember.)
11. The book you’ve reread the most.
A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway.
12. Your favorite hero from literature.
Dorothy Gale. She was terrified but brave and tenacious, and look how that turned out.
13. Your favorite villain from literature.
Almira Gulch. Those flying monkeys!
14. The name of your autobiography.
Hang In There.
15. Your favorite comfort food.
Really good French fries.
16. First thing you do when you finish writing a novel.
The very long list of things that don’t get done while I’m rushing to finish the novel.
17. A secret talent you have.
I’m a foodie. So I’m a pretty good cook. But not much of a chef or a baker.
18. Where have you always wanted to travel?
I’ve never been to Australia or New Zealand and I’d love to visit.
19. One tip for aspiring authors?
The best advice for any author is always the same: Finish the book.
20. Puppies or kittens?
I’ve always been a dog person and I’d have dozens if I could.
