Teaming up with NOOK Press for a Barnes & Noble In-Store Signing: A Guest Post from Bestselling Author Kathleen Brooks

Hello from the Bluegrass state! Fall is a beautiful time of year in Kentucky. The leaves are turning colors, the air is crisp, and it’s time to put on your best dress to attend the horse races at the historic Keeneland racetrack. And when you write books set in the Bluegrass, it’s the perfect time to have a signing at your local Barnes & Noble store.

I’ve been publishing direct with NOOK Press for five years. I love hearing about the innovative ideas they have for the publishing industry. In return, authors share what ideas and needs we have. One of those new ideas is a Barnes & Noble in-store book signing for NOOK Press authors. So when NOOK Press asked me to do a local signing at the Lexington Barnes & Noble for my new release, Forever Concealed, I was excited to say the least.

Great, I have a book signing, but now what? Forever Concealed is the seventh book in my comedic romantic suspense Forever Bluegrass Series and my 26th published book. I’ve done my fair share of signings—RWA, RT, bookstores, libraries, blogger sponsored events . . . but never one in a Barnes & Noble store. How was this going to work? Would there be resistance since I’m a self-published author? The answers are you work as a team and it’s never been easier for me as an author.

The NOOK Press team reached out to the Lexington Barnes & Noble store and introduced me to the local staff. A couple of days later, I’m sitting in my local store sipping coffee and talking books with the team who is in charge of the signing. My local store’s excitement over the signing and bringing in local authors vanquished all my worries as we worked together to discuss promotion of the event. We wanted to make the event special for my readers and the community.

NOOK Press made it simple for me logistically through my use of the NOOK Press Print platform. I uploaded the final paperback version to NOOK Press Print a month ahead of the signing. I ordered a proof and it was beautiful. As we work on spreading the word for the signing, we stay in touch to determine how many books will need to be ordered. NOOK Press will order them and ship them to the store, taking that normal stress and hassle off my plate.

So come see me on October 14th at the Lexington Barnes & Noble store for the signing and a Q&A afterward. You’ll get to learn more about how NOOK Press and Barnes & Noble stores are teaming up with authors to put on a great event for you and your readers!
